Reflections on Our Retreat

The Vestry met for retreat on the evening of June 5 and for much of Saturday June 6. It was a very positive and productive time for all of us!

We must begin by thanking Father George Karney for his invaluable expertise and spiritual guidance! He helped us focus our conversation and prayerfully discern what actions we need to take to move our Parish forward. We studied portions of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Through this study, we realized that it takes work and commitment for those among and with us to feel that they belong – that they are loved.

From the perspective of this Bible study, we prayerfully discerned that there are 2 key issues that must be the focus of our attention and energies as we continue to make plans for our Parish’s future.
The first issue is Volunteering. There is always going to be a need for more people to contribute their time and God given talents. However, as a Parish must work to say ‘thank you’ more and care for those who put energy into volunteering for our Church. We must all make a concerted effort to do the work of thanking people and their contributions. Loving someone who puts some part of themselves into our Church is God’s call to us through the commandments.

We, as a Vestry, have committed to putting the effort into recognizing and helping our volunteers. We hope that you will help us with this effort by thanking someone you see or know contributes in any way to our Parish.

The second issue we prayerfully discerned as an issue is our Service times. Diversity in service offerings is necessary in a Parish as diverse as ours. However, it is hard to feel like a loving community when we are all separated into ‘time slots’ on a Sunday. We must emphasize that NO decision was made or even suggested to change our service times at this point. However, we need to hear from you, our Parish Family about how the service times impact you and your family.  Vestry members have committed to attend diverse service times and wearing their name badges to identify themselves as Vestry. Please contact them and let them know your thoughts. It is only through loving communication that we will be able to make decisions that will help meet the spiritual needs of our community.

Thank you all so much for the love and thought you put into our Church! No matter if you attend sometimes or every week -- weather you volunteer to make a Sunday happen or just participate in the service. YOU are our Parish and we are grateful to God for each and every one of you!

Yours in Christ!
