It Feels Like Spring At Advent

Despite the recent snow, spring is here! You can feel it in the air and see it happening around you. The trees have buds on them. The tulips are popping up through the ground. Daffodils are blooming, and birds are singing. The other day I saw a yard that was absolutely covered in a blanket of purple crocus.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal, a time when life can’t help but shine forth. It’s a really exciting time. Easter is in spring, and what better way to view the awesome gift of life.

I don’t have a long history at Advent, but I can’t help but get the impression that Advent is going through a spring-like period. We are growing as a congregation in many ways.

New programs like Family Promise demonstrate an abundance of compassion that make Christ visible to the surrounding community.

The efforts of Rev. Greg to initiate the process that is being facilitated through the Kaleidoscope Institute, and the commitment of those on the Missional Ministry Team, have positioned our congregation to “spring forward” into an exciting new part of Advent’s story.

No fewer than 34 people from 16 different families have joined Advent since last April!

That growth is representative of the welcoming, inclusive, sincere love that Rev. Nancy emulates, but it wouldn’t be possible without everyone collectively demonstrating an environment that makes Christ visible. Through this, we change lives and make a difference, together.

The three components of our framework for growing our congregation are Invite, Welcome, and Connect. Moving forward, we all can continue to help Advent grow during this period of spring by inviting people to come, welcoming them when they arrive, and helping them to connect with the congregation by participating in service to others.

May peace be with you during this exciting time of spring!

Respectfully,

Josh Auld
