Wednesday in Holy Week: Tenebrae

Derived from the Latin for “darkness,” Tenebrae is a special form of worship that uses sequential reading from scripture with candles to express Christ’s presence and how the events of Holy Week seek to extinguish his light.  After each scripture reading, one candle is extinguished, until at the end of the service only one candle’s light remains.
