Colin Johnstone will be joining the Outreach Committee on May 1st at 7:00 p.m. to share his story of Mission.
Colin Johnstone has been invited to meet with Advent's Outreach Committee on May 1st to discuss how pivoting to a more global outlook for mission might be an important part of helping Advent move toward a more vital, mission-oriented parish. Colin began worshipping at Advent some15 months ago and preached the homily on the last Sunday in Epiphany, also known as World Mission Sunday in the Episcopal Church. Colin comes to us from the parish of All Saints Brookline in the Diocese of Massachusetts where he was part of the vestry group instrumental in using the 5 Marks of Mission to discern the reorientation and re-visioning of outreach to include robust local and global mission ministries. In the diocese of Massachusetts, Colin served as a deanery representative and lay convener, delegate to the diocesan convention, member of the Commission on Ministry and the Standing Committee during the untimely death of Bishop Thomas Shaw SSJE and the election and transition of Bishop Alan Gates. Perhaps most importantly, Colin worked with Bishop Shaw beginning in 2007 to nurture and develop the companion relationship between the Diocese of Massachusetts and the Anglican Diocese of Tanga, Tanzania. His recent trip to Tanga, in February was his tenth visit.
Currently, Colin is serving on the Global Mission Commission in the Diocese of Pennsylvania. We are blessed to have Colin offer his experience and first-hand knowledge of mission-oriented ministry.
